How to use a word wall in your classroom
Word walls seem to be a staple in elementary classrooms. They are not only a great tool in the classroom to help build vocabulary and reinforce concepts like ABC’s, blends, diphthongs, digraphs, etc, but they are a great reference point for students if they are within eyes reach.
Creating meaningful experiences for our kiddos is so important, and one of my favorite ways to do that with a word wall is to incorporate the student’s names on the wall. Actually, this is a great way to start the year off! During your morning meeting, pull a name word wall card and introduce the student to the class. Have the student put their name on the word wall under the letter that their name starts with. This is a great way to build classroom community AND squeeze in some learning.
All of this to say, I want to share something that will help you create these meaningful experiences with your students, and will also give you some print and go resources to help reinforce phonics concepts.
Deanna Jump and I have created the ULTIMATE PHONICS BUNDLE! This bundle includes several activities that will help you create those meaningful experiences with your students.
First up, let’s talk about what phonics concepts are covered.
Each concept has several activities. First up are these easy, print and go booklets. These can be printed front and back on an 8.5×11 piece of paper and then folded into a booklet. The students will work on tracing, basic sentences, and a fun word sort.
Next up are the pocket chart activities. Each concept has a pocket chart activity like this one. These are great for carpet times, independent work, or centers!
SPACE SAVING AND INTERACTIVE WORD WALL
If you are limited on space in your classroom, then you will LOVE this option! You simply small ring binder clip each letter and the vocab words together. You can hang these on hooks or put them in a container. And best of all – there is an editable portion as well so you can type in your own words to add!
We’ve also included a cute poster set and wall cards. These are great for classroom decor and act as a quick reference for students during the school year.
Each concept has cards that can be used for pocket charts, small groups, and more! Everything coordinates in theme and is a perfect addition to your classroom décor!
