I have loved working with children over the past fifteen years fulfilling roles such as teacher, caregiver and camp director. After receiving my degree in education, I taught 1st/2nd grade as well as 5th/6th grade and middle school and high school science. I have learned many things along the way, but the most valuable lesson I’ve been reminded of throughout my career is what Jesus told his disciples, “And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will not lose their reward.” (Matthew 10:42) It is often the small things I do- the tone of voice, the gentle hug, the patient reply-that make the most lasting impressions on the children I teach. It has been my experience that the most effective teachers have been those who prepare engaging multi-sensory lessons that are taught in a loving and safe environment.
