Community Helper Activities
This community helper unit for Kindergarten has everything you need to teach your little learners during your upcoming social studies unit. I am personally not a worksheet type of teacher, so having activities that the students can do to help reinforce math and ELA concepts being taught in the classroom – all while learning about community helpers – is the perfect combination!
Hands on Math and ELA activities that are CCSS aligned!
Check out this fun math game! It’s called “Put Out That Fire” and it’s a great addition game. The students stack their fire cups in a pyramid, then choose two cups at a time.
Next they add them together and find the water droplet with the correct answer. Their goal is to save the burning house that is at the bottom of the pyramid. (See the picture below.)
We love talking about each community helper. The Community Help Unit for Kindergarten has 10 different mini lessons and comes with this adorable pocket chart and set of ‘guess who’ cards.
Dramatic Play
Set up a dramatic play area for your students. There are several activities included in our unit that will get your students some hands-on experience. Whether it is the Veterinarian checkup or the Chef’s sight word spaghetti and meatballs, each activity makes it easy for your students to feel like they actually are the community helper.
Want an even better idea of everything you get when you purchase the Community Helper Unit for Kindergarten? Then you’re going to love this short video! It’ll show you the resource in action. Check it out now!
Community Helper Emergent Readers
If that isn’t enough, I also included these fun emergent readers. The students read each word and then rainbow write the community helper title at the bottom of the page.
