DENTAL HEALTH FREEBIE
I thought it might be helpful to share a few activities that we did during our health unit so that you could use them with your little ones.During our health unit, I like to either order books from thriftbook.com (a great website to snag CHEAP book) or reserve books from the library and start the month off by reading as much as we can about health and our bodies!
A few books that we read this month were, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Dr. DeSoto, and We Share Everything. I presented the books a variety of ways. I read the books to the students, we acted the books out, I found read alouds of the books on YouTube and showed the books to the students, and then I put the books in the station area for the students to play with. It was so neat seeing them mimic the way that we read to them.
Several weeks before teaching our health unit, I called a local dentist and scheduled a visit from the Tooth Fairy.
The students smiled from ear to ear when the Tooth Fairy told them all about her pet unicorn and how she was able to shrink down at night time. The ‘Tooth Fairy’ talked all about how to brush away the sugar bugs and the importance of flossing every night. Before she left she gave us some precious gifts that would help us in our dental care routine. The students LOVED the experience!
