Hello fellow educators! I hope this blog post finds you well. As you may know, playdough activities can be a fantastic addition to the classroom, offering a range of benefits for students. That’s why I’m excited to introduce our new January-themed Playdough Challenge, designed to bring some winter fun into your classroom.
The Benefits of Playdough Activities
But first, let’s delve a little deeper into the benefits of playdough activities. Not only do they promote creativity and hand-eye coordination, but they can also improve fine motor skills, social skills, and more. In fact, research has shown that playdough activities can have a positive impact on children’s cognitive, language, and social-emotional development (Giangreco, 2010).
Our January-Themed Playdough Challenge
Now, on to our new Playdough Challenge. This versatile resource comes with three exciting game modes to choose from, making it suitable for use in centers, small groups, or even whole group settings. Speaking of centers, you may like this blog post that shares how I introduce centers in the beginning of the school year!
Game Mode 1: Individual or Solo Playdough Challenges
First, in Game Mode 1, individual players complete a playdough challenge card by sculpting the designated image. Each player gets the same amount of time and then votes for their favorite sculpture (excluding their own). The sculpture with the most votes wins and gets to choose the next challenge card.
Game Mode 2: Team and Group Playdough Challenges
Next, in Game Mode 2, teams of 2-4 players work together to complete “group challenge cards” by adding as many details as possible to their scene or sculpture. Like in Game Mode 1, each team gets the same amount of time and then votes for their favorite (excluding their own). The winning team gets to select the next challenge card.
Game Mode 3: “Minute to Win it!” Playdough Challenges
Finally, Game Mode 3 is called “Minute to Win it!” It’s a twist on the traditional playdough activity with a time constraint. Players try to make a sculpture resembling the designated image as closely as possible in just one minute.
Our January-themed Playdough Challenge includes printable and slideshow versions of 10 individual challenges, 10 group challenges, and 16 “Minute to Win it!” challenges. The slideshow even has built-in timers.
